Altons Garden Centre

Altons garden centre first opened on Decimalisation day, 1971. This family-run concern is conveniently laid out, with specific areas each naturally flowing into the next. The centre offers an A-Z range of species of flowering and foliage plants, shrubs and trees and alpine plants. Each comes with detailed information on its preferred sitting (shade-loving etc) soil conditions and care regime.

The viewing garden areas feature superb topiary- a footballer and skier are just two of the whimsical and expertly produced examples. Throughout the centre, the information and informative staff provide attentive, conscientious advice and service to all customers and are able to help both the novice and experienced gardener.

The garden centre specialises in large plants and also has a good range of trees and shrubs for small gardens. Here visitors will find everything they need to plant and maintain a beautiful and healthy garden, including a range of composts and top soils, gardening tolls, ornaments and sundries. For the indoor gardener, there's a superb range of houseplants on offer.

The well-stocked, attractive gift shop offers a range of pictures, candles, posters and prints, frames, games, silk flowers, basketware, games and toys, and CDs and cassette tapes. In the bookshop, visitors will find a wide variety of gardening titles.

The coffee shop will satisfy the appetite with a good selection of sandwiches, salads, cakes and other snacks, teas, coffees and soft drinks, in a large heated wooden building or when the weather is fine, guests can sit out in the attractive patio area. There is a separate but complementary pool supplies and maintenance department.
