Brambridge
Park Garden Centre
Brambridge park garden centre occupies the
old walled garden of the imposing 18th century brambridge
house. Much of the original building was destroyed by fire and
rebuilt in 1892. The fine original walled garden is now the
outside display area, with a massive range of trees, shrubs and
foliage and flowering plants for home and garden.
The original estate buildings are
complemented by the garden centre's main building. The centre's
magnificent central structure is done in reproduction Victorian
wrought iron work. The houses palms, bamboos, bananas and other
exotica. The central rotunda is a shop, home to the majority of
gift items and gardening extras available. Within the walled
garden area is a display called world gardens, which allows
visitors to take a trip 'round the world' without leaving
English soil. Just cross the moat to enter these special
gardens.
The mystical eastern garden has bubbling
cascades and a bamboo grove set around an enchanting pagoda.
Year-round colour and interest are provided by the
rhododendrons, azaleas, acers and pines. The southern
garden
has a Doric sun temple, classic features and a rock wall set
amongst bold, colourful and textured planting in the
Mediterranean style.
The western garden has a cottage corner,
lovers seat, pavilion and orchard where attractive paving edges
and features combine with mixed shrubs and herbaceous borders
to capture the charm of an English garden.
The garden centre also owns the surrounding
woods and meadows of brambridge park conservation area. Many
improvements have been put into place to encourage
wildlife.
There is a wonderful nature trial which has
been developed to help visitors explore nature at close
quarters. The 'country house' coffee shop lunches home-made
cakes, cream teas, specials and roasts.
